Impressions from the scottish west coast, August 2004

By using the information on the map and the image names you'll recognize where the fotos were taken :)

I've been to Scotland for approximately the 8th time in 2004, as I am truly in love with the landscape. While I did shoot plenty of fotos before, those were always on film. This time I took the opportunity to use my new digital camera and make some of the landscape available here. I hope you're going to like what you see, these are some of the places that I like most. There are some comments included below as well.

Most of the fotos and album done by Stefan, some fotos by Daniel

The first images are from Glasgow, because we attended a conference there. I really don't like the city that much, however, university somewhat reminds you of Hogwarts.

Glencoe is by way to the west coast via Rannoch Moor and the Great Glen. While it's spectacular, there's an incredible amound of tourists in coaches around.

Skye is part of the Inner Hebrides / Western Isles and is an absolutely lovely as well as stunning place. Road signs in the northwest are in english as well as gaelic.

Heather, thistles and sheep (together with fox glove and midges...) are some of the predominant inhabitants of Scotland. And of course everybody loves the sight of Highland Cattle.

The road to the Applecross peninsula once even inspired an Audi commercial. Guess why.

The only thing that is more omnipresent than sheep are midges. In case you don't know, these are very small stinging insects that can be a real nuisance. Of course, there HAS to be a tradeoff for the landscape!

Applecross is very lush and you can enjoy several arboreal walks that will present you with ancient trees.

The coast across from Skye is very scenic and permits incredible views of the Cuillins (the Skye mountain range), basically the skyline of Skye ;-)

Besides all imaginable (and some unimaginable) shades of green, scottish landscape is so peculiar because of the weather - especially the sun peeking through clouds.

Inverewe Gardens is a truly amazing place. It contains a walled garden that grows all kinds of flowers and veggies.

What makes it even nicer is the fact that the amount of coaches etc. diminish the farther north you head. Beware of the Great Glen and Fort William, love the North and single track roads.
